At the Christchurch City Council, our love for our city inspires us as we constantly strive to make it an even a better place to live, work, and play. A role at the Council isn’t just a job, it’s an opportunity to make things happen in the city you’re dedicated to.

The Solid Waste Management Team is responsible for developing and implementing strategies for both minimisation of the city’s solid waste and disposal of the residual waste. As an Education Officer, your focus is to educate our customers on the importance of minimising what goes into landfill thus diverting waste from landfill, and helping to reduce the environmental impact of waste. You will help our community to understand the benefits of waste minimisation and how it can be implemented in all sectors of the economy, in an effective, safe and sustainable manner.

This role also involves some work out in the community, working with collection contractors to audit the contents of household wheelie bins.

You will come from a background in customer service, and perhaps you have worked in a similar role in the past. Ultimately, the key to your success will be your passion for waste minimisation and your enthusiasm for educating the community on why this has such a profound effect on not just the individual and our city, but our world as a global resource. You will be comfortable interacting with members of the public to positively promote the importance of waste minimisation. You will be confident dealing with difficult customers, so the ability to deal with conflict and resolve issues will come naturally to you.

There is no doubt we are at a pivotal point where promoting a more sustainable society for future generations is now a worldwide focus.

Be inspired by the work that you do every day. Join our team and make things happen.
