Presentation title:  Getting the most out of ‘Behaviour Change’

Why and when might we want to consider behaviour change? Who needs to change? How? Is behaviour change enough? And what other options might we have?    This paper compares different frameworks for behaviour change from psychology, marketing, education, sociology and systems thinking.  We review some latest developments and techniques for behaviour change, with the aim of stimulating conversation about what these different approaches might offer for the waste management sector, combining the insights from the different approaches, alignments needed, and factors to consider for building a successful intervention. We also reflect on the recent ‘Up the Pipe’ project – aimed to raise awareness and reduce contaminants going down the drain from household cleaning and personal care products – to illustrate what worked, and lessons learnt.
