What does the steering committee do? Tasks include:
- Contributing to the development of policies
for the industry.
- Being involved in making sure regulation or legislation affecting
business is practical and sensible.
- Developing an effective forum to network with others inside and
outside of the industry.
For a business owner or staff member, it is
also about providing an informal means for helping the business
grow, finding new industry
contacts – in essence participating in shaping the future
of the industry
For a steering committee member the work involves:
- Contributing to the development of an
annual plan and looking at how to finance some of the projects.
- Providing technical help - WasteMINZ staff
can’t be experts
in all that the institute is involved with.
- Determining what should go in workshops or what sort of conference
papers would be interesting.
- Assessing where should we be putting our
effort – for example
towards influencing government or expanding industry capability.
- Identifying where industry research is necessary or where there
are information gaps.
- Leading discussions on some topics.
- Considering the need for industry standards or best practice guides
and contributing towards their development if necessary.
- Assisting with industry marketing issues.
How the committee works
There are eleven members on the Compost New Zealand committee.
Committee membership is voluntary.
The first meeting to establish the NZ Composting Association was
held on the 15th December 2005 in Wellington.
