The landfill and residual waste group steering committee has prepared a strategic plan and an annual plan to guide work programmes for the group.
Strategic and annual plan
The strategic plan provides some information on key issues for the landfill and residual waste sector and methods for encouraging management changes around the country.
Key projects for the group include:
- Enhancing industry training, through;
- Promoting the excellent training offered through EXITO
- Offering landfill management courses
- Raising the profile of landfills by;
- Maintaining links with ISWA and SWANA.
- Carrying out technical reviews for landfill management guides produced under the auspices of ISWA.
- Providing incentives to improve landfill management through an award system.
- Increasing the range of technical and operational material available for landfill managers, including;
- Comparing management plans with a view to promoting better consistency.
- Undertaking a gap analysis to consider what management practices are inconsistent and where little reliable information is available.
- Providing a best practice approach to Leachate drainage.
- Providing information on settlement tolerance of gas wells.
- Exploring operational aspects of landfill gas extraction.
