Waste Project Manager – Wellington City Council’s Waste Operations Unit

Everyone produces waste. Increasingly, waste is becoming an area of concern for New Zealanders and there’s an expectation that our systems and policies will change for the better.

If you’re interested in making a difference, we’re keen to hear from you.

Wellington’s Waste Operations team requires a dedicated and experienced project manager to plan, research, drive and deliver on two key projects in Wellington. This 2 year fixed term role will focus on the development and delivery of a kitchen waste diversion trial and a review of our CBD waste services.

As these projects have already been identified as priorities, we are looking for an experienced professional who can jump in and be effective immediately. As such we are offering a competitive salary.

You’ll be working directly with members of the public, businesses in the waste sector, and senior Council staff.  You’ll need to be able to get to the heart of complex issues, and to understand and advise on how decisions will affect rates and provision of services.

To be successful in this role:

  • You will bring experience and expertise in the waste sector.  You’ll be a problem solver, who is able to work with a wide range of stakeholders and customers.  It’s a robust environment and you’ll need to be personally resilient.
  • Ideally you will have a broad understanding of Local Government and relevant legislation.
  • A relevant tertiary or project management qualification and experience are desirable but not essential.

This is a great opportunity and the successful applicant will be empowered to make real changes to services in the CBD and recommend options for food waste diversion from landfill.

If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.

To apply for this position you must be eligible to work in New Zealand and hold a full New Zealand Drivers licence. We will be holding interviews in person in Wellington, so you will be expected to arrange your own travel if you are from out of town.
