Contaminated Land Officer

The Hamilton City Council is looking for a Contaminated Land Officer to join the City Safe Unit to ensure environmental and health standards are maintained and followed.

In this role you will manage our responsibilities under the Resource Management Act in relation to contaminated land, specifically the prevention of mitigation of any adverse effects associated with the use, development and subdivision of contaminated and potentially contaminated land; and associated with the storage, use, disposal, or transportation of hazardous substances. 

This will involve providing technical input into reporting on applications for land-use, subdivision and soil disturbance in relation to land contamination and hazardous substances; and carrying out compliance monitoring and enforcement as required. 

You will have a tertiary qualification in environmental science or a related field, proven experience in the Resource Management Act in relation to contaminated land and hazardous substances and excellent written and oral communication skills. 

In this role you will have to provide accurate and quality engagement advice to both internal and external customers on the National Environmental Standard for Assessing and Managing Contaminants in Soil to Protect Human Health 2012 (NESCS). 

Being a team member and dealing with people is a crucial part of this position. You will need to be flexible and adaptable with good communication skills so that information can be delivered in a timely and positive manner. 

The recruiting range for this role starts at $69,800.00 per annum and could be negotiated for the right candidate.
