If so, Environment Canterbury Regional Council based in Christchurch has an excellent opportunity to be a key player in a skilled multi-disciplinary team, working to protect Canterbury’s important natural resources through projects targeting the improved treatment of hazardous substances and waste.

You will be part of a pro-active team that is recognised nationally for its work in contaminated land, hazardous substances and waste management.  This will include being part of education and advocacy initiatives alongside our partners and working with central government on national policy development.  You will be a key player in our relationships with our key stakeholders including our City and District Councils. You will also manage regional waste minimisation projects involving multiple partners and provide technical advice on hazardous substances and waste issues both internally and externally.  You will be expected to identify, bid and utilise external funding for major projects providing financial accountability and conforming with Financial Rules. You will also be expected to provide leadership in managing waste and providing technical advice and to eliminate the adverse effects of hazardous substances.

You will require a master’s degree in a relevant field, such as chemistry, soil science or toxicology, and or 5 or more years’ experience of hazardous substances and waste management.  You will be a strong team player with the skills to develop and maintain valued relationships with a wide range of organisations working towards sustainable waste management in Canterbury. A strong communicator, you will  communicate science findings and technical advice at an audience appropriate level.
