WasteMINZ is delighted to announce the appointment of our new Board members following the AGM on 19 October 2020.
David Howie – General Manager Lower North Island, Waste Managment NZ Ltd.
Dave’s seven years at Waste Management NZ follow on from a 25-year career based around construction materials supply. He has more than 20 years’ experience in executive and senior management positions with leading New Zealand organisations, and has been actively involved at Board level with a number of industry representative organisations.
“Over this time, I have increasingly become concerned about the impact we collectively have on the environment and the complexity of the many interrelated activities that make up the society that we live in today.
As we face the critical challenge of significantly and quickly reducing our net carbon emissions, we need to accept that action from all of us is required if we are to meet the targets that New Zealand, and the world, has set to minimise the impact of climate change.”
Todd McLeay – Chief Executive Officer, Smart Environmental.
Todd has held Governance and Senior Executive positions in a range of successful and innovative companies including Australian-based robotic manufacturing company Kinaroad, fast-growing Smart Energy Solutions, and he has been the CEO of Lotto NZ and had GM Marketing roles in NZ Post and Vodafone.
“Globally, efforts to improve how we handle waste are progressing – but at too slow a pace. All the while the state of the planet is suffering more and more. New Zealand is no exception. Despite the Government having admirable plans there is insufficient alignment and leadership across the industry to turn ideology into outcome fast enough”.
Parul Sood (re-elected) – General Manager Waste Solutions, Auckland Council.
Parul is an experienced public service leader, working with a diverse team that is passionate about turning waste to resources and striving for a circular economy. She has also held senior strategic and operational roles with Waitakere and Rodney Councils. Parul has a Master’s degree in Environmental Science and a Diploma in Environmental Law.
Parul has been actively involved in the WasteMINZ Baord and in the TAO Forum as a Chair.
“I have really enjoyed my first term on the WasteMINZ Board, and I am very grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the governance of our organisation. Two years have gone really fast and If I am fortunate enough to be reappointed, I look forward to continuing to champion WasteMINZ’ value as a catalyst for waste minimisation, with councils, the community and the private sector working together for the benefit of Aotearoa New Zealand.”
A warm welcome and congratulations to our newest Board members.
