CLM Networking Event

WasteMINZ is delighted to announce the second CLM Networking event of the year to be held in Auckland. A big thank you to our sponsor Stantec for allowing us to utilise their premises.
Whilst the event is free for WasteMINZ members, non-members are most welcome to attend (at $59 + GST per attendee). We do ask you to register to help us with the catering for the event.
These events provide a great opportunity to (re-)connect with colleagues from across the sector in person.

Speakers
Come and join us to meet your newly elected CLM Sector Group Steering Committee Chair James Corbett! James is a principal contaminated land specialist in Auckland Council's engineering and technical advisory directorate, closed landfills team. He works alongside other technical specialists and project managers to manage 180+ closed landfills and provides advice across council on contaminated land risks for land purchase, remediation and ongoing management.
James was elected onto the CLM Steering Committee 2024 - 2026 during the recent elections once more, and unanimously voted in as the Chair by the CLM Sector Group Steering Committee.
Tess Brothersen is a senior environmental scientist, specialising in contaminated land at Stantec. With 15 years’ experience in contaminated land practice and environmental compliance, Tess has experience with a wide variety of sites including residential redevelopment, industrial and power generations sites, and military ammunitions manufacturing. She has a keen focus on enabling soil reuse, utilising her specialist knowledge in both contaminated land practices and the impacts of waste legislation on landfilling to advocate for sustainable remediation practices. Tess holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering and is a Certified Environmental Practitioner, Site Contamination Specialist.
Courtney Armstrong is a Senior Project Manager with the Auckland Council Closed Landfill Team, bringing 15 years of experience in contaminated land consulting and local government. She holds a Master of Science (1st Class Hons) in Geology from the University of Auckland, is a PRINCE2 Practitioner in project management, and is a Certified Environmental Practitioner (CEnvP).
Recently, Courtney steered the Auckland Council Closed Landfill Team through the challenges presented by the Anniversary Weekend storm, swiftly addressing and resolving issues across the landfill portfolio. She has also played a key role in a collaborative climate hazard risk assessment with Tonkin + Taylor, focusing on identifying and prioritizing high-risk sites in the Auckland Region for further investigation. Additionally, Courtney has worked with various teams across the Council and multiple consultants to develop the adaptation planning scope for site-specific investigations of four priority closed landfills, with the goal of effectively addressing and mitigating climate-related risks.
Courtney has a keen focus on collaboration and integrating Mātauranga Māori into project outcomes through early engagement with iwi partners. In her spare time, she is a busy mum of two young daughters, and competes in both pool and open water swimming competitions for Waitakere City Masters.
