From 1 January 2021 you will need a permit from the Environmental Protection Authority before you can import or export certain types of plastic waste. ‌ ‌The Government has approved regulations under the Imports and Exports (Restrictions) Prohibition Order (No 2) 2004 for the trade in plastic waste. This is in line with new international obligations under the Basel Convention.

The new regulations mean that from 1 January 2021 you will need a permit from the Environmental Protection Authority before you can import or export certain types of plastic waste.

Visit the Environmental Protection Authority’s website <https://mfe-inhouse.cmail20.com/t/r-l-juhjtijl-odijihldtr-y/>  for information on how to determine whether you need a permit for your shipments.
