Speakers: Vicktoria Blake and Vanessa Neven
Vicktoria Blake has been the Sustainability Manager at Bay of Plenty District Health Board since June 2019. With a bachelor’s degree in business management and master’s in environmental management, Vicktoria brings a balanced approach to organisational sustainability, with a strong theme of “environment first”. Vicktoria has a background in tertiary education and uses a positive ako teaching and learning approach to organisational behaviour change and collaboration wherever she can. Vicktoria’s most significant recent achievement is the public launching of Bay of Plenty District Health Board’s Kaitiakitanga Framework for Environmental Sustainability and its accompanying action plan which is available on the DHB’s website. Mum to 14-year-old Matthew, Vicktoria is very focused on what the future will look like for her son and his children, and she does her best to take a hopeful solutions-focused approach to resilience, sustainability and carbon reduction.
Vanessa Neven joined Southern Cross Healthcare in 2019 to bring sustainability to the strategic forefront at both a national and regional level. Since her inception, she has developed and implemented their Sustainability strategic plan and Carbon reduction action plan, established carbon foot printing for ten of SCHL hospitals and has worked to integrate sustainability at both national board and hospital level. Vanessa’s has over a decade of diverse healthcare and business management experience; she holds a bachelor in business management and degrees in project management and nursing. Vanessa’s leadership in sustainability is driven from both personal and professional experience, having worked in both the healthcare and building industry, she saw first-hand the impact we as organisations have on the environment. Vanessa and her husband raised their four daughters on a fully off grid and sustainable farm they built in the Canadian bush, imparting the importance of taking action and the broader impact of their ripple effects. Vanessa’s ability to adapt, support and drive change with a sustainable focus is an integral part of who she is.
