What is Second Hand September?

Second Hand September is an annual campaign encouraging people to rethink how they buy clothes and to choose pre-loved items instead of new ones. The goal is to raise awareness about the environmental impact of fast fashion and promote more sustainable shopping habits.  It also promotes “circular fashion” — keeping clothes in use for longer, reducing textile waste, and lowering the industry’s environmental impact. By taking part, people can reduce waste, support second-hand stores, and help tackle the problems caused by overproduction and overconsumption in the fashion industry.

Join us to learn about the following initiatives run during Second Hand September and get inspired to run your own event.

  • The Collectors Anonymous app and sewing/repair classes held in their libraries/community houses

  • Thrifty Threads

  •  Bus Tours and joint Council Sustainable Style event
