One week after the lockdown began, we’re continuing to work on innovative ways to bring you the latest and greatest across the waste management, resource recovery and contaminated land management sector. Life is changing, but some of it also goes on as normal – and we’ll do our best to cover all bases.
Online Learning
As we are all home-based at present, we’re going to step up the amount and type of online learning that we offer to members and consolidating it so that it’s available to you in one place for a longer time. Watch this space for more news about our online learning facilities.
Going forward, our online learning will be divided into three learning streams:
COVID-19 Updates:
You will already have seen a number of these in our daily blogs/direct mails and across our social media posts.
The latest government update for the waste industry, highlighting the approach to garden and DIY waste, is available here.
All such webinars and information are free to members. Last week’s webinar, with guests, Roderick Boys and Shaun Lewis from MfE, was stretched to capacity and proved very useful for all attendees. This week we have extended the capacity significantly so everyone who wishes to should be able to attend – and if we max out once more, we’ll increase it again.
Please remember to sign up to the weekly COVID-19 webinars, where we will update you on developments during the lockdown and beyond. Be sure to click the down arrow to capture all the dates. We’ve moved the time to 12 noon so that you can listen to the Prime Minister or government official’s daily media conference at 1pm.
We will carry on with these for as long as we need to, but please do let us know by replying to this email if you’d prefer to hear from us less frequently!
Professional Development:
Our professional development stream will focus on ways to manage workloads, work teams, workplaces and everything to do with the parts of our jobs that present us with challenges and opportunities, no matter what the circumstances around us. We will generally need to share the presenter’s costs for these, although during the pandemic the prices will be kept to the minimum to assist members through this challenging period.
The first of our Professional Development Online Seminars will take place next Monday, 6th April. Mental health and team leadership expert Sue Kohn Taylor will talk to members about ‘Managing Remote Teams for Success’ (Price $20+GST pp). There will be a follow-up to this on Thursday 14th April, and a further programme of online events to roll out over the coming weeks and months.
Industry Presentations:
In this programme, we will bring you seminars and interactive online workshops from subject matter experts across our industry.
Next Wednesday 8 April at 10am, the Industry Presentation will be on ‘Guidelines for Beneficial Use of Organic Materials on Land.’ Presented by Rob Tinholt (Resource Recovery Manager, Watercare), the webinar will cover the history and process of updating the current (2003) “Guidelines for the safe application of biosolids to land”, the reasons and analysis behind updating the schedule of contaminants addressed, the changes in the concentration limits, and the expansion of the product suite to cover “organic materials”. This is free to WasteMINZ members.
Revolve and e-news
Last week we proposed bringing you a mid-week e-news devoted to COVID-19, in addition to our usual e-news on Friday. In the end, however, we decided that neither was entirely appropriate as the week unfolded, so we didn’t supply either e-news version. This week, we will bring you e-news as usual on Friday, with some inevitable mention of the pandemic but featuring other waste industry news as well.
Similarly, we will go ahead with the next issue of revolve in May as planned (so all those contributing article-writers and advertisers can still submit their copy!). However, as printing, posting and distributing are all creating challenges during the coronavirus crisis, we are going to have a digital-only issue. As with the last issue, this will be available in PDF and Flipbook versions. Please note that advertising rates will be 25% cheaper than in the media kit.
We hope these updates and information sources work for you. Our genuine hope, however, is to keep you informed, not inundated – so again, if you would like to hear from us less frequently, let us know by reply to this email and by the ‘unsubscribe’ options we’ll apply as often as feasible.
Stay well, everyone.
