Thanks to everyone who attended the WasteMINZ COVID-19 Update webinar today, not least our panel presenters: Kevin Lavery (SOLGM), Phillip Eyles (DIA) and Rod Boys (MfE). The opportunity to have your questions answered by those involved in the decision-making is extraordinary, and we appreciate everyone’s input into this important communication process.
The recording and Q&A notes have been distributed to WasteMINZ members. If you know of someone who would also benefit from the webinars and other industry-specific information, please put them in touch with our membership coordinator, Sharmaine Oakley.
Urgent PPE supplies
During the webinar we focused on the PPE supply issue. If you have critical shortages which will impact on your operations over the coming week, please email me with these details.
Phillip Eyles stated in his discussion that some important information about PPE would be communicated very soon. I am very pleased to tell you that a PPE Portal is now available.
Hot off the press from Phillip’s email, “We now have a portal for non-health essential services to request PPE from the national reserve supply. Note at this stage it is only face masks available through this channel. The portal is available here (https://www.nxp.nz/personal-protective-equipment/).”
A message for everyone
I passed on a message from one of my neighbours at the end of the webinar, and I’d like to share it with you too. As I was putting out my bin last week, a neighbour who knows what industry I work in called to me to extend her appreciation for the people continuing to collect waste in these difficult times. “Thank you to everyone for providing a bit of normality and support when there is so much confusion,” she said.
I couldn’t agree more. Please ensure that every single member of your team knows that they are appreciated, not just by your industry colleagues, but by New Zealand’s public.
Have a good ‘weekend’ everyone, and I’ll talk to you on Monday as Week 2 of the lockdown continues.
