Presentation title: Vermicomposting of organic wastes – New Zealand developed world leading technology
Industrial vermicomposting as cost effective environmental sustainable technology has been established in New Zealand five years ago with recycling approximately 40,000 tonnes of pulpmill solids per year. Within the last years vermicomposting technology has been grown to such a scale that more than 150,000 tonnes of municipal biosolids, pulpmill, solids, fruit wastes, and other wastes are diverted from landfills in New Zealand every year. First results of land utilisation of vermicast have demonstrated the enormous potential to increase soil fertility and to promote plant growth and yields in intensive farming, horticulture, and forestry. The success of industrial vermicomposting of municipal and industrial organic wastes in New Zealand is already raising strong interest overseas from globally operating industries.
