Below is a recording of the webinar on “ALARP and asbestos, a job for life?”.

The webinar was held on Tuesday 27 September 2016 and presented by Timothy Dee and Kim Altinkaynak of Aurecon.

It provides a discussion of Aurecon’s experience over the past earthworks season dealing with the new Asbestos Regulations and interpreting them in the context of international guidance. It presents a holistic picture of asbestos in soils management, the scale of the issue and the drivers behind it providing suggestions for consideration in the future management of asbestos containing ground.

About the presenters: Timothy Dee is an environmental chemist based at Aurecon in Auckland. Tim has been working with asbestos since the assessment and remediation of the JH Hardie dump in Southdown from 2008. He has recently returned from the UK where he developed asbestos assessment and remediation strategies for several significant sites including the former Burtonwood Airbase.

Dr Kim Altinkaynak is an environmental geologist based in Aurecon’s Tauranga office. Kim has been working in geology for over 10 years, both in New Zealand and overseas. As a recent entrant to the contaminated land field Kim has already been involved in a number of contaminated site investigations and assessments where asbestos has been discovered and subsequently remediated.
