Timaru Eco Compost will accept delivery of approved compostable packaging via the kerbside organics bin collection and approved waste companies only.

Acceptance Criteria

Timaru Eco Compost accepts the following which they have approved for acceptance at their facility:

  • All food waste and garden materials (except cabbage trees/flax)
  • Animal droppings (loose, in paper or approved biobags)
  • Clean gibboard offcuts by arrangement
  • Dirty paper, hand towels, tissues, shredded paper and cardboard
  • Food soiled paper products (fish n chip/pizza/burger boxes/butter paper/greaseproof)
  • Small animals/offal/hair/nails

Timaru Eco Compost will not accept:

  • ‘Compostable’ nappies
  • Ash
  • Bathroom and fireproof gibboard/painted or nailed gibboard
  • Cabbage trees and flax
  • Gravel and dirt/soil
  • Non approved biobags/PLA packaging
  • Single use coffee cups

Timaru Eco Compost reserves the right to reject any packaging that is presented as ‘compostable packaging’, even if listed as an acceptable input if found to be detrimental in any way to the Timaru Eco Compost composting methods, or to Timaru Eco Compost compost products.

Fundamental to the success of composting appropriate service ware is the issue of contamination. Timaru Eco Compost have a low tolerance of contamination. Contamination such as plastics significantly compromises the quality of our compost product. If Timaru Eco Compost receives contaminated material it will be diverted to landfill –and the cost of landfilling will be charged.

Delivery:

Timaru Eco Compost will accept delivery of materials directly to the site via a permit programmes. Contact Timaru District Council on 03 687 7200. The public can deliver garden materials to all transfer stations in the District.

Timaru Eco Compost is also willing to accept one off deliveries of large volumes of compostable packaging from event organisers. Click here to organise a delivery.
