Xtreme Zero Waste have resource consent to trial small quantities of compostable packaging in their industrial scale Horizontal Composting Unit. This enables them to work with some local food outlets and community events.
In tandem with the Plastic Free Raglan Project, Xtreme Zero Waste will review its capacity to receive and collect and compostable packaging during 2019.
Due to their consent conditions, Xtreme Zero Waste are not able to accept compostable packaging at this time. Pre-approved trials must meet the following Criteria:
All compostable packaging needs to be certified under either the European Standard EN13432, the American Standard ASTM D 6400 or the Australian Standard AS4736.
Xtreme Zero Waste will not trial:
Xtreme Zero Waste reserves the right to reject any packaging that is presented as ‘compostable packaging’, even if listed as an acceptable input if found to be detrimental in any way to the Xtreme Zero Waste composting process, or to Xtreme Zero Waste’s compost products.
Fundamental to the success of their composting is the issue of contamination. Xtreme Zero Waste have a zero tolerance of contamination. Contamination such as plastics significantly compromises the quality of our compost product. If Xtreme Zero Waste receives contaminated material it will be diverted to landfill – and the cost of landfilling will be charged.
Delivery:
Xtreme Zero Waste are only able to accept delivery of compostable packaging for trial at their site by prior arrangement. Click here to organise.
Individual members of the public are not able to drop off their compostable products in person at this time or include compostable packing in their kerbside food waste collection.
