Digestate from the anaerobic digestion of source separated organic wastes has proven globally to have a positive impact on both the land and environment.

This presentation shares the establishment of the Digestate Biofertiliser Certification Scheme developed by the Bioenergy Association of New Zealand. The Scheme has been designed to give end users and regulators confidence that the digestate products are of high quality and contribute significantly to soil health and plant nutrition. Furthermore, the presentation will share the process of creating and developing the Scheme and what the next steps for the project are. The Scheme is an exciting development for the waste industry in New Zealand, expanding the options for the beneficial reuse of wastes and reducing the need for synthetic fertilisers.
