18 Nov 2025: Harnessing behavioural science to support waste minimisation

Session 3 - Harnessing behavioural science to support waste minimisation

Tuesday 18 November, 11am-12:30pm
This is a paid event - see registration fees here

The workshop aims to provide participants with a structured, evidence-informed approach to selecting behaviour change interventions that address key barriers to performing waste minimisation behaviours.

Workshop description:

The workshop will guide participants through the process of matching key behavioural insights (barriers and enablers) to appropriate interventions using the Behaviour Change Wheel framework.  Building upon the foundational behavioural science concepts and data-driven insights explored in the first two BehaviourWorks workshops that WasteMINZ brought to you in March, this session will support you in translating your understanding into real-world action by introducing a range of intervention types and the conditions in which they are most effective.

You will be introduced to practical decision-making tools and case study examples, which will support you to confidently design targeted, feasible, and impactful waste minimisation initiatives.  This session will consolidate learning across the series, empowering you to take the next step in applying behavioural science to your work.

If that sounds like you, then please join Danni Teychenne (Learning Designer at BehaviourWorks Australia) and Kavya Raj (Director of Education at BehaviourWorks Australia) for this 90 minute online training session.

About BehaviourWorks Australia
BehaviourWorks Australia is a behaviour change research enterprise within the Monash Sustainable Development Institute at Monash University. Established in 2011 as a consortium partnership, BehaviourWorks is now the largest applied behaviour change research unit in Australia.

BehaviourWorks dynamic research collective has delivered hundreds of projects across a broad range of areas including health, environmental protection, regulation/compliance, biosecurity, sustainability, social inclusion, energy, safety, consumer decision-making, organisational change and community engagement. Given the complexity of human behaviour, BehaviourWorks employs over 25 university-based, qualified researchers across disciplines from psychology to political science, behavioural economics to systems thinking, knowledge translation, sociology and education. BehaviourWorks is also committed to improving behaviour change literacy in Australia and building the skills and capabilities of government and industry professionals to solve policy and service delivery problems through evidence-informed practice.

BehaviourWorks' trainings content is guided by a structured behaviour change approach – the “BehaviourWorks Method” – for collecting and translating research evidence into practice. The Method has been developed based on the learnings that BehaviourWorks' researchers and their industry partners have collectively gathered from working across an extensive range of behaviour change projects. The Method provides tools related to unpacking problems, identifying and prioritising behaviours to change, gathering insights around key behavioural drivers and barriers, designing behaviour change interventions, and implementing trials to test and evaluate interventions and scaling the learnings into policy and practice.
