From waste to a greener future
Mat Coleman, Interwaste
Mat has over 40 years in the telecommunications industry in Europe, USA, and the last 17 years here in New Zealand. He has worked through a variety of roles including engineering, product marketing, pre-sales support and account management. Looking for a new challenge, Mat moved to Interwaste three years ago.
Interwaste is a New Zealand owned business that specialises in the collection and processing of specialised waste. These segments are quarantine and medical waste. Interwaste works closely with key government agencies such as biosecurity NZ, Customs, NZ Police, Te Whatu Ora, the CRI group, along with major pharmaceutical companies, universities, and laboratories.
Customers are increasingly looking to reduce landfill waste and reduce their respective carbon footprint. This has led Interwaste to develop its Medicycle programme. Mat drives and manages the Medicycle program where Interwaste collaborates with customers, manufacturers and recyclers to recycle what has traditionally been deemed “hard to recycle products” diverting waste from landfill wherever possible.
With over 12 individual recycling programmes, ranging from fluorescent tubes (over 100 tonnes per annum), through to single use medical instruments, Interwaste turns waste into products that truly reflect the circular economy model.
