Becoming a life member of WasteMINZ

Criteria

To be eligible for election as a Life Member, you must meet the following criteria:

Membership:
  • Must be a current financial member of WasteMINZ. The only exception to this is when a person who has passed is nominated.
Length of active membership:
  • Must be an active member of WasteMINZ for a minimum of 10 years (which does not need to be consecutive)
  • Demonstrated consistent engagement and participation in WasteMINZ’s activities, conferences, and initiatives over the years.
Service to WasteMINZ:
  • Demonstrated leadership within WasteMINZ, such as:
    • Serving on WasteMINZ’s steering committees, working groups, or the WasteMINZ Board
    • Leading or initiating important industry projects or programmes within WasteMINZ’s steering committees or working groups.
    • Regularly presenting at WasteMINZ’s conferences, workshops or webinars.
Industry recognition:
  • Recognition from peers and colleagues within the industry for exemplary service, contributions, or innovations in the waste, resource recovery or contaminated land management sectors.

Nomination, review, and ratification process

  • Nominees must be nominated by at least two existing members of WasteMINZ.
  • These members must complete the life member nomination form (which will be shared with members through our channels) and forward it to WasteMINZ’s Chief Executive 42 days before WasteMINZ’s Annual General Meeting in October.
  • The WasteMINZ Board will review the nominations based on the outlined criteria, request further information from the nominators or nominee if required, and agree on which nominations will be ratified.

Approval process

  • Final approval of life member nominations that the Board has ratified will be voted on by members at WasteMINZ’s Annual General Meeting (AGM). Life membership nominees will be advised in the notice of the AGM.
  • Life members will be granted permanent, lifetime membership status and will receive a complimentary annual membership with WasteMINZ. However, if a complaint is received about a life member in relation to the alleged breach of WasteMINZ’s Rules, WasteMINZ’s Code of Conduct or other professional or criminal misconduct by the life member, Section 7 (Breach of Rules or misconduct of member) of the ‘Rules of the WasteMINZ Management Institute New Zealand’, will be followed. The process for submission of complaints, investigation of these complaints, and how decisions will be communicated, is set out in this section.
  • After this process is followed, the board may remove the life member status of the member.
