Overview of the Waste Minimisation (Waste Disposal Levy) Amendment Act 2024

This 45-minute webinar, provided an overview of recent changes made to the Waste Minimisation Act 2008 that widen the purposes for which the waste disposal levy can be invested, and provide additional provisions for improved management of contaminated sites and emergency wastes.

The webinar was presented by Glenn Wigley and Stephanie Hill. 

Glenn is General Manager - Waste and HSNO Act Policy at the Ministry for the Environment. He has worked at the Ministry for over 20 years in a range of differing policy areas. Since 2020 Glenn has been working predominantly in waste and HSNO policy – and was involved in changes to the waste levy, development of the Waste Strategy, the waste components of the Emissions Reduction Plan and advising Ministers on changes to the Waste Minimisation Act.

Stephanie is a Principal Advisor in the Waste and Resource Efficiency division at the Ministry for the Environment. She has a background in public sector environmental management, including at the Ministry for the Environment, Ministry for Primary Industries, and Ministry of Fisheries. Since she joined the Waste and Resource Efficiency division in 2018 she has helped develop and implement improvements to the waste disposal levy and waste legislation along with other waste policy work.
